We currently live in a world where presence is the most important asset – you need to be present on social media and across multiple platforms. Having a large presence is far from easy, unless you’re Rihanna or a Kardashian, but if you’re reading this, I imagine that you’re neither of those and are running a business or personal brand which you want to get out everywhere you can on social media. A social media presence across multiple platforms is something which won’t come overnight and it will require a lot of work, but with a proper strategy and some tips, it’s something which is possible as long as you have the will to do it!
First of all, what’s the benefit of having a social media presence across multiple platforms? To put it simply, it’s being able to reach your audience with every piece of content you produce. For example, if you post on Twitter, it’s likely that only 10% of your followers will see it – with 1 million followers, that’s only 100,000 impressions – if you have less followers than the percentage increases, but it’s still not high enough. If you’re producing quality content, you want as many people to see it as you can, right? You also want that content to lead to sales, so being seen on multiple platforms by a larger amount of people gives you a wider scope for converting your customers.
So here are some tips which I’ve put together for you to try and build out your social media platforms:
Regularly Post on Every Platform
This is definitely one of the most important points to consider when building your social media profiles. If you want people to follow you, they need to know that they’re going to see some quality content on a regular basis – you need make the user feel comfortable that if they hit that follow button, that it’s going to be worth their while. This means that you need to make a plan of what content will be of value to your audience and pursue in creating or documenting that content and posting it for your followers to enjoy. If you’re posting more content and adding the right hashtags, creating conversations or getting shares, then people are much more likely to follow you than if you post once a month!
Be Engaging on Every Platform
Now this can be a whole blog in itself and I could hit this with a few angles but to sum it up, you need be posting engaging content which will resonate with your audience and also be engaging with them on a personal level. You won’t build up a big social media following on multiple platforms if you’re just posting constant boring sales posts, which is just asking your followers to buy your product – you need to fill it in with some good, relevant engaging content which will add value to your followers. Notice the word ‘relevant’ – the content you post needs to build followers which are your target audience – so this may be certain quotes, tips or blogs, but just make sure that it’s not generic!
The second point is to be engaging with your followers! The reason for this is that it makes your company social media profiles feel more human and gives your followers a warm feeling when they get a reply. However, if you ignore your followers, it’s going to a leave a bitter taste and a missed opportunity for you to convert! So make sure that you’re replying to your followers, starting conversations and giving some RTs or shares to make them feel important.
Promote Your Own Social Accounts
When you’re growing your social media accounts, you may not notice, but it’s likely that you’ll have a large number of followers who follow on one platform, but not the other, or you’ll have a load of followers on Twitter but no one following your Snapchat. The solution for this? Cross-market your social media accounts. This can be done in multiple ways and a way which we’ve found successful is offering exclusive content or competitions on one platform. This will make all of your interested followers on your other platforms head over to the platform in focus and follow to make sure that they’re not missing out on anything – forget FOMO, FOMOS is the important one now – Fear of missing on social!
So there are 3 tips which you can incorporate into your social media strategy, which will allow you to build a presence on multiple platforms at the same time. What I want you to do now is actually take action! There’s no use in just reading a blog, getting motivated, then going back to the same routine.
